Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus

Despite the fairly recent releases of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, it appears that Samsung is hard at work on its mid-range phones. These include the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus, which are the successors of the 2017 Galaxy A5.

The Galaxy A lineup has so far included the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A4, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7, but there’s been no mention of the Galaxy A6 until now. Let’s look at everything we know about the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus specs, release date, price, and more.

Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus News

News about the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus comes almost daily now, so bookmark this page to keep up to date!

Update 1 (April 20, 2018):

Our first update comes from a joint effort by Twitter users @OnLeaks and @mysmartprice to give us renders of the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus.

These new videos show both devices with a fingerprint scanner mounted underneath the single-lens setup in the Galaxy A6 and the dual-leans setup in the A6 Plus. If the renders are to be believed, both devices will feature a micro-USB connector, which is pretty outdated considering most new devices feature USB-C. View the full videos here:

Update 2 (April 23, 2018): Our newest update show us a front and rear view of the Galaxy A6, which corroborates with the appearance shown in the leaked render video above.

Update 3 (April 29, 2018): We just received a few photos from China’s regulatory board (TENNA), as well as official Samsung training videos for the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus. View the gallery here:

Update 4 (April 30, 2018): Official press renders continue to leak, which means the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus release is imminent. In the latest photos we’ve received, we see the specs of the two devices, as well as camera differences.

It appears that the dual camera setup on the Galaxy A6 Plus allows for a similar feature to portrait mode on the iPhone X, which blurs the background and focuses on a person or thing.

Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus release date and price

Update (May 18, 2018): We have been given exclusive info about the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus!

The source claims that the Galaxy A6 will cost Rs. 18990 ($360 CAD / $280 USD), while the Galaxy A6 Plus will cost Rs. 22990 ($435 CAD / $335 USD). The device is also expected to be quietly unveiled on May 21, just three days way!

With news about the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus leaking almost daily, we can expect a release date in the near future. The 2017 Galaxy A5 was released in January 2017, so it appears that Samsung is slightly behind schedule for their new mid-tier phones.

As for the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus prices, we’re assuming there won’t be too much of a gap from the 2017 Galaxy A5 launch price ($399 USD / $510 CAD). Although the A6 Plus has slightly higher specs than the Galaxy A6, we don’t see it breaking the bank.

We expect the Galaxy A6 to launch at $399 USD / $510 CAD and the Galaxy A6 Plus to launch at $449 USD / $580 CAD. We will update this as we hear confirmed prices.

Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus Specs

Samsung first started the Plus models in the Galaxy A lineup with the Galaxy A8 Plus that was released earlier this year. It appears that the tech giant is including a Plus model for the A6 as well.

Here are the specs for the two devices:

Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus specs (Model: SM-A605G)

There’s certainly much to be desired from these two devices, especially with the Samsung Note 9 release later this year. However these specs are pretty typical for mid-range handsets.

The Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus are also expected to retain the headphone jack and will have an expandable storage up to 256GB via microSD.
